About this course
This course positions students as proactive “safety anchors”. They learn to be models of calm, respectful behavior, that respond early to signs of conflict. Students learn how to build a respectful workplace culture that lowers harassment, bullying and incivility, which are proven precursors to violence. Through the practice of empathy, bias awareness and needs‑focused communication, they gain tools to de‑escalate tense encounters quickly and encourage others to report concerning behaviors sooner, which gives management more time to intervene before problems escalate.
The course focuses on the four recognized types of workplace violence: criminal intent, client‑to‑worker, worker‑to‑worker, and domestic spill‑over. Students learn the behavioral, situational and physical indicators that form a clear pathway to violence. Through case studies and scenario drills, they sharpen situational awareness, threat assessment and documentation skills that reduce liability and demonstrate due diligence to clients.
The course also equips students with tactical strategies, including distance, cover, time, active listening and SCARF-based dialogue, that lower threat perceptions and guide people back to voluntary compliance. Emphasis on early intervention, bystander engagement and clear reporting channels ensures potential issues are addressed long before force or law‑enforcement support is required.
You and your clients will benefit from fewer disruptions, stronger employee trust and tangible evidence of a robust safety culture. The result is a more secure, productive environment where risks are spotted early and conflicts are resolved peacefully.
