About this course

National Institute of Public Safety (National IPS), in partnership with Guard Boss, is committed to providing high-quality security and professional development training designed to prepare students for real-world success in the private security industry. This course is designed to train you in the safe, effective, and lawful use of chemical agents while emphasizing professionalism, liability prevention, and de-escalation techniques.

Throughout this course, students will learn:

  • Techniques to de-escalate and prevent incidents before they escalate, ensuring chemical agents remain a last resort
  • The differences between various chemical agents and which options may be most effective in different scenarios
  • The short- and long-term effects of chemical agents, including risks for individuals with certain medical conditions
  • Proper storage, handling, and deployment procedures for tear gas, pepper spray, and other airborne or waterborne chemical agents
  • Legal considerations, documentation requirements, and reporting procedures following the use of force or deployment of chemical agents
  • Best practices for maintaining safety for both security personnel and bystanders
  • The goal of this training is to ensure students understand how to safely and lawfully handle chemical agents while minimizing unnecessary harm and reducing liability exposure.
