Part 1: Powers to Arrest (Online): This course covers the legal foundations and essential skills needed for security officers, including:
-Understanding laws related to trespassing, property rights, and private person arrests
-Conflict de-escalation techniques to prevent situations from escalating
-Effective communication skills to build confidence and authority on the job
-Proper coordination with law enforcement during incidents
-Additional key topics
Part 2: Appropriate Use of Force (In-Person): This hands-on training focuses on applying sound judgment in real-world situations, including:
-De-escalation strategies using professionalism and self-control
-Applying the Critical Decision-Making Model in high-pressure situations
-Understanding legal standards for the use of objectively reasonable force
-Other practical applications
Completion: After successfully completing both portions, you will meet the required training to move forward with your Guard Card application and begin working as a licensed security officer.
Important Note: The online Powers to Arrest course must be completed prior to attending the in-person session. Please allow approximately 5 hours for the in-person training.
